Crew Insignia

'Crew' is the term for a class of officers who joined the German Navy at the same time. The cadets spent their first year at sea as crew ranks on a sailing ship with full rigging. It took four and a half years for a successful naval cadet to attain officer rank of Leutnant zur See.
