U-boat Emblems

Many Kriegsmarine U-boats crews displayed one or more unique emblems on their boat's conning tower. Some U-boats were sponsored by a German or Austrian city, and so those boats usually displayed the city's coat of arms on the front or sides of the tower. Other themes included good luck symbols, German folklore, insignia relating to the captain, events that occurred during the boat's active service, humorous cartoons and symbols relating to the boat's nickname.
